Youth Studies

The new Youth Study Southeast Europe will be published on 21 October 2024.

What are young people afraid of or hopeful about? In a rapidly changing world that is challenged by climate change, inequalities, aging societies, and democratic decline in many of its parts, FES Youth Studies investigate how young generations perceive the development of their societies and their personal future. The aim is to encourage informed debate about the interests, values, and life circumstances of young people between the ages of 15 and 29 in the following domains:

  • Education
  • Employment and Mobility
  • Family and Friends
  • General Values, Attitudes and Perceptions
  • Political Attitudes and Perceptions.

FES has conducted numerous youth studies around the world since 2009. As of 2018, Youth Studies at FES Democracy of the Future are focused on Southern Eastern Europe, Russia, Central Asia, Eastern Central Europe, and the Baltic States. Further studies are being conducted in the Middle East and Northern Africa, as well as for individual countries around the world. Currently we are working on surveying youth in Southeastern Europe and Central Eastern Europe countries.
