Brussels Democracy Dialogue 2024: Defending and Advancing European Democracy

On 20 November 2024, the first Brussels Democracy Dialogue brought together policymakers, academics, and civil society leaders to explore how to strengthen European democracies in an era of rising authoritarianism. Organised by the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung EU Office Brussels and the FES Democracy of the Future Office Vienna, the event followed the spirit of the Hambach Democracy Dialogue by creating a platform for progressive democratic exchange. On the occasion of the Brussels Democracy Dialogue, FES published a study by Prof. Sarah Bush that looks at the role of pro-democratic actors in democratisation processes worldwide. Read the paper below.
