Youth Studies

What are young people afraid of or hopeful about? In a rapidly changing world that is challenged by climate change, aging societies, and democratic decline in some parts of the world, the FES Youth Studies aim at encouraging informed debate about the attitudes, hopes, and fears of young people between the ages of 15 and 29.

Since 2009, FES has conducted numerous Youth Studies around the world. As of 2018, FES Youth Studies are focused on Southern Eastern Europe, Russia, Central Asia, Eastern Central Europe, and the Baltic States. There are further studies planned for the Middle East and Northern Africa, as well as for individual countries around the world. The project aims to investigate how young generations perceive the development of their societies and their personal future in the following domains:

  • Education
  • Employment and Mobility
  • Family and Friends
  • General Values, Attitudes and Perceptions
  • Political Attitudes and Perceptions.
